I have been researching the work of Steve McCurry recently. He is the author of the most well-known and most published photo in the world under the name “Afghan Girl”, which appeared in 1985 on the cover of National Geographic.
His portrait photography is stunning – but i noticed his use of colour. As you can see in the image above he has incorporated green and orange, which at a third way round the colour wheel from each other makes it very harmonious.
This gorgeous shot of Shaolin monks again uses a combination of orange and blue – which are exactly opposite each other on the colour wheel. He has also roughly followed the ratio rule of 1:2
Here he works with reds, purples and pinks, creating a warm feel using similar colours. Stunning.
